 THE WILY PA VETERANS
The active hill climb racing community in Pennsylvania and the Northeast turns out between 75 to 100 entrants for typical Pennsylvania Hill Climb Association events. Fields at these events are full of diverse and interesting cars and some very fast drivers:
The Danko's - Daryl and Jack Danko are consistent contenders in their open wheel formula cars. Daryl's IRL Lola set the Giant's Despair hill record of 39.000 in 2006.
Kurt Eikenberg - A hard charging Sports Racer driver and consistent class winner.
John and Jane Stinsmen - His and her gloves are needed to drive their Formula Continental Van Diemen up the mountain!
Rich Rock - Always a threat to win in the Historics Division in his rare and unique TVR
THE SOUTHERN GENTLEMEN
The Blue Ridge region also houses an active cell of fast and well prepared hill climbers who are being encouraged to travel north and try out the newly permitted Polish Mountain hill.
George Bowland - 7 time SCCA Solo and Pro Solo National Champion for North Carolina. Currently holds three different hill records in his BBR Shark
Stan Vann - Representing the moustache generation well, Stan's elegant Caldwell D-9 flat flies when turned loose on the hill.
THE NEW BLOOD
One of the goals of the National Road Autosport group is to invigorate the hill climbing community with some new blood, gleaned primarily from the Cumberland Airport Autocross gang and their supporting clubs. As local Western Maryland racers, Chesapeake PCA track competitors and Steel Cities SCCA/North Hills Autocross racers enter the Polish Mountain event, we'll feature them here, as the new kids on the block among Mid Atlantic hill climbers.
Herm Melotti - The only "defending champ" in the hill! Herm is an active
MARRS race who trophied in the 1962 Polish Mountain Hill Climb.
Dennis Howard - Veteran PCA club racer and autocrosser known for killer race
cars and his relaxed demeanor - a racer's racer.
Fred and Scott Pfeiffer - Father and son drivers, part of a three generation
family team with a beautiful Brumos tribute 914-6.
The Flying Feltens - Another father and son team with a fistful of
Cumberland Airport FTD wins in their Reynard Ford.
Greg Honeycutt and Steve Wilson - Emerging track event drivers sharing an
ITC ride in the inaugural Polish Mountain revival event.
Williams Racing - Another Cumberland Porsche team, the Williams brothers are
known for entertaining peformances in the #7 Bergsteiger 944.
